> Are you, dear pen loving friend, creative and curious? Do you want to write soulful stuff? Wonderful! If you want (or absolutely need) serious encouragement, this is the course you've been looking for.
In five evening classes, let yourself be nudged gently but firmly towards DIY prose, poetry, dialogue and non-fiction.
Towards stories that have been laying dormant for too long.
Towards stories you didn't even know were in you.
Towards stories worth writing.
About the course
> We'll put your muse to work via practical assignments: every story starts with random thoughts, images, associations, memories. I'll show you how to organize these, and you'll help your fellow writers to pick the best ideas.
> Then it's time to build a story that will keep your reader interested. I'll teach you tried and tested techniques.
> Your homework: finish what you've started during class. We'll read each other's stories and I'll guide you with constructive feedback.
About your teacher, Manou van de Zande
With a surname like mine it's not hard to guess: I'm not a native speaker of English. I'm very much Dutch. I'm an Anglophile when it comes to reading and writing though. One of my greatest joys is devouring books on creative writing, gorging on wisdom and how-to's from the great and grand - like Ursula Le Guin, Stephen King, Kurt Vonnegut, Virginia Woolf and many more. I like that elevated feeling you get when peeking over the shoulders of giants.
The first novel I read in English was The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis - better known as pt. 1 of The Chronicles of Narnia. The second was The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. By then I was hooked on the English language for life. After studying journalism and English Literature and falling in love with an Englishman, two Irishmen and one Canadian (which entailed frantic letter writing, lots of it), I considered myself fluent enough to apply for a job at an Irish daily newspaper. Which I didn't get, of course.
But! Some 25 years later, I find myself experienced enough as a teacher of writing, plus I managed to hold on to just enough youthful brazenness to launch this Try Out | Creative Writing Course.
Join the club! I guarantee a 5 week long celebration of your writing and my love for the English language.
